Pet Allergy Control Measures

Dog Mats - The Perfect Solution For Crates, Kennels and Travel

Whether you need padding for a crate or kennel or you are repeatedly washing your dog's bed or if you travel extensively, a flat dog mat that is easy to care for may be the perfect solution. You can easily transfer a dog mat to wherever your dog goes, and it can be thrown in the washer and dryer for easy cleaning.

A dog that likes to stretch out when he sleeps will find a dog mat to be perfect for him, but it is also a great place for him to curl up, so if your dog spends much time changing positions, a flat mat won't hinder his comfort. Dog mats are also good to use for training as they can be used as the "spot" for your dog to follow the "stay" command and to "go lay down."

Flat dog mats come in a variety of standard sizes and your choice of fabrics. Some dog mats are made from recycled material, in case you want to "go green." There are high quality but economical dog mats made with reinforced fabric that makes for a soft but tough dog mat that will stand up to multiple washings. They come in a variety of beautiful colors but, because they withstand repeated washings, you won't mind getting them dirty. If you are a little more fashion conscious or a little on the wild side but want the same ease of use, you can find dog mats that come in chic animal patterns, such as cow and giraffe.

If you want to go even greener, you can find dog mats that are made with eco-friendly fabric made from 85% recycled fibers from recycled plastic bottles, milled in the USA for optimum quality and durability. Just one extra-small mat diverts over 9 bottles from the landfill, and an extra-large diverts over 40 plastic bottles. It takes less energy to create fabric from recycled fibers than to produce the same fabric from virgin fibers.

Regardless of what kind of dog mat you choose, if you are using it for a crate or kennel, it's best to buy a flat mat that is the same size as the crate or kennel or a little larger. Some dog mats have a slight edge that easily folds up so that your dog has a resting place alongside the wall of the enclosure.

Your dog doesn't have to sleep on the hard bare floor in your house or on the hard surface of a kennel or crate. His joints can be protected as he rests comfortably on a thickly padded flat dog mat.

Music Festivals in the UK

As the summer gets under way all across the UK tents are pitched and the stage is set for a plethora of music festivals, from jazz to classical and from folk to funk, hundreds if not thousands of bands perform under the open skies to audiences from all walks of life.

The most famous, or perhaps the most infamous, must be Glastonbury, it certainly has to be one of the largest and all encompassing festivals that has grown from a small gathering in a cow field to an immense leviathon attended by not only the best international artists, but an audience from the furthest flug parts of the globe.

But it's not all muddy fields and dreadlocks, the soothing sounds of Glyndebourne's opera festival in an English country house near Lewes in East Sussex, has a pedigree going back to 1934 and is the setting for the London Philharmonic Orchestra to play a wide variety of classics, but with a slant towards the operas of Mozart.

Many festivals are as oveable as the audiences with many upping sticks and moving as the winds blow them, notably Radio 1's "Big Weekend."

The audience has grown up with visiting these pillars of an English summer, but as they have entered the mainstream workforce their expectations have grown with their salaries. What was acceptable 20 years ago is no longer, as many have become used to a soft bed, as opposed to a muddy field, and the idea of a, daily, shower in a room with a flushing toilet has become a luxury impossible to dispense with.

With these in mind most, if not all of the festivals have provided parking and whilst it may not offer the convenience of a fully plugged in campsite, there should be enough water and comfort to last ot the longest of music festival in the UK.

Pet Allergy Control Measures

There are millions of pet in the U.S. The problem is, about 10% of Americans are having allergic reactions to animals. The pets that most commonly cause allergic reactions are dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, rabbits, rats, and guinea pigs. These pets can all provide comfort and companionship for their owners, but they can also provide health issues as well.

Pet allergy happens when your immune system responds to particular animal proteins. This reaction causes inflammation of the nasal passages (rhinitis), which results in sneezing, rhinitis, and other allergy symptoms; many of the same symptoms that are usually attributed to hay fever. Pet allergy sufferers may also develop skin issues. Those may include: red patches of skin, itchy skin, and hives. Most pet allergy symptoms will resemble those of the common cold virus, or hay fever. If these symptoms persist for longer than a week, a person should consider seeing his or her doctor. For someone with asthma, exposure to pets may cause more severe symptoms, such as: breathing difficulties, tightness in the chest, a whistling sound or wheezing when exhaling, difficulty sleeping which is caused by a shortness of breath, and a prominent wheezing.

A person will be more prone to pet allergies if allergies or asthma run in their family. Exposure to animals when one is young can have an effect on whether one will become allergic as they age. For example, research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 2002, reported that when children were exposed to multiple pets at a young age, this seems to have had a protective effect against the children developing allergies later in life; and that includes both pet allergies and environmental allergies.

People become allergic to pets because of a pet's dander, skin, urine, and saliva. With regard to birds, we would add feathers and excrement to the allergen mix. Also, pets have a way of spreading other environmental allergens, such as the dust and pollen that may accumulate in their fur. There is an issue of being accidentally exposed to pets even if you don't have any of your own pets at home. If you are allergic and you are visiting a friend or relative with pets, make sure you take your allergy medication before your visit. If your pet allergy is particularly severe, see if your relative will make arrangements to temporarily remove the pet from their home during your stay.

Most of us can relate to the deep psychological bond that can develop between owners and their pets. Some doctors will callously instruct their patients to remove an animal from their home, despite this emotional interdependence. We consider this to be cruel and indifferent, and we feel that doctors should explore some of the ways patients can control their symptoms before having to part with their beloved "family members." Next, let's take a look at pet allergy control measures.

Before finding another home for your animal, consider trying some of the following precautions:

. Brush your pet frequently and bathe it on a regular basis
. Do not sleep with your pet in the same room
. Consider wood or tile floors in your home, since they don't collect allergens
. If you must have carpet, select ones with a low pile and steam clean them frequently. Better yet, use throw rugs that can be washed in hot water.
. Purchase a quality air filter or purifier, preferably with HEPA filtration
. Consider trying a good natural antihistamine, such as quercetin (you'll find this in your local health food store)
. Make an appointment with an NAET (Nambudripad Allergy Elimination Technique) practitioner who can use energy-based techniques to identify your allergies and sensitivities, and eliminate them permanently
