What is Pet Therapy For SAD Sufferers?

A Dog Lover's List of Great Bigger Sized Canines For the Homee small white fluffy dogs popping up all over town, large dogs still remain man's best friend. There are many different types of large dogs, and depending on the qualities you are looking for in a pet, you may want to consider a larger sized animal.

When it comes to larger sized canines, here are some great options to consider.

Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to own 3 German Shepherds. My family had our first German Shepherd when I was just 5 years old, and that dog remains one of my favorites pets to this day. The German Shepherd is at the top of my list.

Rottweilers are another larger dog that I have been fortunate enough to have as a pet over the year. In fact, I have had two Rottweilers (Rambo and Jackson). These larger sized canines usually range in size from 85 to 115 pounds and are great pets if trained the right way from the start. It is not wise to adopt a fully grown Rottweiler, however.

I have to give some love to the Great Dane even though I have little experience with them. These dogs are truly majestic creatures and their size is breathtaking. Unfortunately these dogs have shorter life spans and should not be considered unless they have ample room to exercise. If you live in an urban area, you should consider other options.

Although it may not be the largest dog in the pack, I will quickly discuss the Golden Doodle. This dog is a "designer dog" and is half golden retriever, half poodle. Seeing as the aforementioned breeds are two of the smartest, it comes as no surprise that the golden doodle is very intelligent and makes for a great pet.

When it comes to finding the right balance of intelligence, gentleness and loyalty, it is hard to beat the Collie. It is not a coincidence that this type of dog was used as Lassie, as these are common characteristics of this canine. The only downside to Collies that I can see is that they shed a decent amount, but this can be prevented with regularly grooming them.

These are just some of the great breeds of larger sized canines, and if you are looking to get a dog for the family, hopefully now you know you are not just limited to dogs that fit in a purse.

d or anywhere near the house would immediately start barking loudly. It was as if she was very angry that people had even dared to go near her area and home etc. What a perfect animal and pet, not only is she loving, loyal, funny and superb at catching and fetching the ball, she is also a form of security for our house. Those same youths do not bother us anymore.

ell as taking your mind off your own problems. As we know, exercise is a therapy for seasonal affective disorder, realeasing those endorphins in the brain.

Pet Personalities

Unlike an aquarium of tropical fish, dogs are much more interesting, in my opinion. They have distinctive personalities, as cats do too. However, if you are unable to 'get about' easily - perhaps lacking a transport, or for health reasons - then tropical fish are great stress reducers too. And, let's not forget parrots - they will talk to you!

In Summary

Springer Spaniels are my favourite pets, but generally any form of pet will add interest and diversion into your day. Dogs offer probably the widest range of benefits to a SAD sufferer. So, think about a pet as a possible component in the holistic approach to beating SAD.
